About Lewis & Sons

Over 60 years ago at the age of 21, Walt Lewis began his journey in the asphalt world with his brother-in-law. In 1954, the duo established their business named Custom Paving servicing jobs in the Kansas City area. They built a foundation of hard work, attention to detail and customer satisfaction while organically building the brand. 

Walt and his family still enjoy reminiscing on the old marketing and sales tactics used by their grandfather in the beginning…

He started out by going door to door in an old doctor’s lab coat saying, “It looks a little rough, but I think we can fix it!”

It’s this creativity and personal touch that set the tone for Lewis & Sons in the years to come.

Many years and a couple of name changes later, Walt decided to purchase B and K Paving from its originators, Bill and Kate Newhouse. B and K Paving’s long standing name and reputation encouraged Walt to keep the name and move forward expanding his footprint in the greater Kansas City area. Walt’s son, Steve grew up in the business by his father’s side. It comes as no surprise grandson; Randy decided to come back to the family business. He has now been with the company over 13 years in addition to years working with his father and grandfather on breaks back from school.  

With 3 generations working side-by-side on the front lines of the asphalt and concrete world, Walt, Steve and Randy felt it was a perfect time to rebrand to Lewis & Sons Asphalt. Walt is not well into his 80’s and still enjoys going to work everyday.
